The 2009 Casual Classics Series opens with an exciting conducting debut, as Assistant Conductor Designate Rei Hotoda takes the podium. Hotoda, who officially steps into her role in September of 2009, will conduct the Dallas Symphony Orchestra in Tchaikovsky's Suite from Swan Lake and Shostakovich's Festive Overture. An established pianist in her own right, Hotoda will also lead pianist Joyce Yang, the 2005 Van Cliburn silver medalist, in a stirring rendition of Rachmaninoff's Second Piano Concerto.
